In your account of conservative American humorists, you omitted H. L. Mencken (1880-1956). One of Mencken's celebrated bon mots was that the great American people, in their quest for a leader who truly reflected them, would some day elect a perfect moron to the presidency (I paraphrase here, but that was the gist). Mencken thought Calvin Coolidge might be his man. Of course, even Mencken could not have imagined an electorate that could choose a Donald Trump— twice.
Apologies, Dan. I'm 75. I thought the only-7-year difference in our ages would put us in substantially overlapping cultural Venn Diagram circles. I was at least partially wrong.
From reader Bob Gardner:
Thanks for the plugs and kudos. Only in America could two Jews be giving their viewpoints on Christmas.
From reader Derek Davis:
We wish you a hari Krishna,
We wish you a hari Krishna,
We wish you a hari Krishna.
And a Rama new year..
From reader Robert Zaller:

Are you related to Johnny Rottenberg?
Not that I know of.

Happy Holidays, Dan.
Love it, Dan!
PJ O’Rourke was witty – but not funny. The last funny conservative columnist was probably G.K. Chesterton. A few GK quotes for this column:
• We make our friends; we make our enemies; but God makes our next door neighbor.
• Journalism largely consists of saying 'Lord Jones is Dead' to people who never knew that Lord Jones was alive.
• It is the root of all religion that a man knows that he is nothing in order to thank God that he is something.
