From reader John Owens:

America is not anti immigrant. It wants to welcome LEGAL immigrants. Those with TPS can apply for permanent status. All those who have entered ILLEGALLY should self deport and apply for LEGAL entry. Those who fail to deport should be deported with no opportunity for future entry.

I don’t agree with your position regarding Amy Wax. She called out what was happening and was severely, and in my view, unduly punished for exposing the truth.

I believe your analysis of why immigrants came to the U.S. and why they had been welcomed over most of the nation's 250 years is spot on. Your observations of what many immigrants did when they arrived and for generations afterwards is also quite accurate. Based on observations and analysis of my own extended family, generational differences had grown wider with each successive generation. I've found 19th-century Eastern European Jews emigrating to the U.S. continued to observe traditional Jewish customs, including endogamy and providing means of earning a living to all relatives open to such occupations.
